Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) is in big trouble. According to a top Republican lawmaker, the FBI could soon launch an investigation.
Swalwell’s suspicious ties to China are now public knowledge and Rep. John Katko (R-NY) wants the FBI to take action. Katko said he wants to “get a briefing so that we can make a determination whether there is a problem.”
This is why several members of Congress have sent a letter to the FBI. As Katko put it, “that’s what we’re looking for with respect to that letter to the FBI on Mr. Swalwell,” an investigation into the allegations.
Katko is the highest-ranking Republican member of the House Homeland Security Committee — a committee Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-NY) re-appointed Swalwell to in mid-January of this year.
Swalwell also sits on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. These two powerful committees deal with classified information related to national security and Swalwell should not be on them.
His ties to a suspected Chinese spy aren’t going away just because Democrats have a slim majority in Congress. Katko and others will continue to push for accountability and transparency.
