Elon Musk has announced that SpaceX’s Starlink satellites are active over Ukraine and providing internet service to aid Ukraine in its defense against Russian invaders.
Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov called on Musk to aid Ukraine in a tweet on Saturday, and Musk responded quickly.
Musk responded to Fedorov saying “Starlink service is now active in Ukraine. More terminals en route.” It took ten hours for Musk to restore service to Ukraine and his actions could very well save hundreds of lives.
With Starlink’s service, Ukraine’s ability to communicate and coordinate against Russian forces is vastly improved. In fact, Ukraine very well may be outmatching the invaders in terms of logistics and communication.
Ukrainian cities from Kyiv, Mariupol, Kharkiv, and Kherson, experienced disruptions that have now been addressed. In the case of Kyiv, Elon Musk has ensured the capital city can continue to communicate with the outside world despite being surrounded by Russian forces.
No matter the outcome of the conflict, this is a massive win for Elon Musk and SpaceX as they are demonstrating their advanced technology works and could play a part in saving Ukraine.
