Daytime talk show host Ellen DeGeneres just received some very bad news. Millions of fans across the nation are shocked — they never expected this to happen. Hollywood has been rocked to its core as well.
As her show is under investigation by WarnerMedia over accusations of a “toxic work culture,” ratings for the once-popular program have plummeted to “a new low,” according to Breitbart News and based upon a report from The Wrap.
The numbers have been pulled from Nielsen, the industry’s most trusted report on viewing trends of television consumers. Reruns for the show “drew a 1.0 Live + Same Day household rating in the week ended July 26, 2020,” noted the report.
“That was down 9% from the prior week and a glaring -29% from the same week last summer,” and there was already “a -27% drop in the prior week (vs. the comparable week in 2019),” so the trend may be here to stay for a while.
DeGeneres issued an apology to her entire staff, claiming she was unaware of the environment, yet actors Brad Garrett and Lea Thompson have claimed it is “common knowledge” that the show’s behind-the-scenes culture is toxic.
Other celebrities have come to her defense, however. Pop superstar Katy Perry said that while she “can’t speak for anyone else’s experience besides my own,” she has “only ever had positive takeaways from my time with Ellen.”
