The Electoral College vote could be ‘reversed’ and Democrats are in shock. Joe Biden never expected this to happen — not at the eleventh hour as he is choosing cabinet members. This is a stunning development.
“Rep. Mo Brooks, a GOP lawmaker representing Alabama’s 5th Congressional District, believes the election was ‘stolen’ from President Trump” and is “preparing a challenge to the Electoral College returns when Congress counts the votes next month,” according to the Washington Examiner.
“In my judgment, if only lawful votes by eligible American citizens were cast, Donald Trump won the Electoral College by a significant margin,” said Brooks in a statement. He is launching a long shot, but it may be worth the effort.
If Brooks challenges the results in the House, he will need at least one Republican lawmaker in the Senate to join him — then Congress would separate into a joint session and “consider their challenges separately.”
Of course, there is a question about whether this will split the Republican Party. While a vast majority of GOP lawmakers supported Trump, some believe that it is simply time to move forward; others like Brooks feel differently and still want to fight.
Brooks may have some backup in the House as well. A newly-elected member, Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, announced on social media that she is “on board 100%” with the effort to challenge the results.
