Police in Torrance, California made a discovery of 300 unopened mail-in ballots last week in the car of a man who had been sleeping there. They also found a gun and narcotics in the car.
The ballots were addressed to residences in Lawndale and Compton, and police did not know why the man had them or what he intended to do with them.
The Los Angeles County Registrar said there was no indication that he intended to use the ballots to influence the September 14 recall election.
There have been concerns about the widespread use of mail-in ballots in the recall election because of their potential for fraud.
Newsom seems likely to survive the recall due to the the suspected level of cheating and voter fraud in California.
