Amid the battle between Congress and President Donald Trump over the combined spending and coronavirus relief bill, an old Trump tweet from 2014 has surfaced that shows his view on government spending has not changed much since before he took office.
“I hope we never find life on other planets because there’s no doubt that the U.S. Government will start sending them money!” Trump tweeted at the time.
Donald Trump Jr. retweeted the 2014 gem as the showdown continues, with Congress wanting Trump to sign a $2.3 trillion package that includes hundreds of billions in pet projects and foreign aid, and Trump telling them he thinks they can do better for the American people.
It’s what happens when you have a divided government, and usually, gridlock is a good thing because it keeps the engine of government from churning out too much useless or harmful legislation.
When you really need to get something done and the two sides can’t put aside their partisan differences long enough to make it happen, however, you have to wonder if the system isn’t entirely broken.
