President Donald Trump is calling for the end of Section 230.
Section 230 is a law that gives tech companies like Facebook and Twitter immunity from publishing content on their sites on the assumption they are a neutral platform.
Trump is arguing that the alleged censorship by those companies is typically one sided and therefore not deserving of the protections offered by the law. It is the assumption of neutrality that makes them useful for free speech and the debate necessary for political democracy.
“For purposes of National Security, Section 230 must be immediately terminated!!!” tweeted Trump.
