Former President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that a lawsuit over alleged Antrim County, Michigan election irregularities showed that election officials were “caught” committing fraud.
Trump was campaigning for GOP state attorney general candidate Matthew DePerno at the time of the comments. DePerno is spearheading the lawsuit against the county.
“The mistake had to be corrected,” Trump said. “We caught them. And they said, ‘Well, we made a little mistake.’ It wasn’t a mistake at all. It was being caught.”
Lower courts have repeatedly ruled against DePerno and his client, county resident William Bailey, but DePerno has vowed to appeal it to the state Supreme Court.
Bailey says voting machines were hacked and votes changed, but county officials say it was a “tabulation error” that resulted from machines not being updated properly before the election.
