President Donald Trump just completely refused and the nation is stunned. Millions of people across the country can’t believe the news, but it has happened. This is a shocking political development.
Trump was asked this week if he would be making a visit to the memorial for Rep. John Lewis (D-AL), who passed away on July 17 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. “I won’t be going. No,” said Trump. Democrats are outraged, of course, but they don’t even want him tweeting about Lewis.
To Democrats, Trump can’t make a good move. If he decided to attend Lewis’ memorial they would accuse him of trying to be the center of attention. But since he has decided not to pay a visit, Democrats have already started to accuse him of being insensitive. It is a game to them.
There is no doubt that Lewis was a civil rights icon and deserved the immense honor of lying in state at the U.S. Capitol. Trump’s decision to avoid the memorial site likely comes down to one thing: He simply didn’t want to be a distraction. There would be a media circus, after all.
Trump and Lewis butt heads on occasion, but it was obvious that Trump respected him a great deal. In fact, Lewis enjoyed not only the respect of his Democrat colleagues, but his Republican ones as well. His legacy will be remembered for generations to come.
According to Breitbart News, “Vice President Mike Pence and Second Lady Karen Pence are expected to pay their respects on Monday evening, and former Vice President Joe Biden will travel from Deleware to make a Monday appearance with former Second Lady Jill Biden.”
