President Donald Trump made a surprise speaking appearance at the Republican National Convention on Monday, saying that he wanted to hear the roll call of delegates and address the group after his nomination to a second term was official.
“What’s more important than the roll call?” Trump asked, slamming CNN and other networks for not airing it. “You’re the ones calling it.”
“We did this out of respect for your state,” he said of the decision to have a smaller convention in person. “We didn’t do this for any other reason than respect for the state of North Carolina.”
Trump also spoke about Democrats’ push for universal mail-in voting, saying that it was likely to lead to vote fraud.
“What they’re doing is using COVID to steal an election, they’re using COVID to defraud the American people, all of our people of a fair and free election,” he said.
