President Donald Trump just scored a massive victory and the GOP is cheering. Democrats are absolutely furious — they know Trump is far from done.
According to Breitbart News, “Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) have won the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) straw poll,” with Trump hauling in an impressive “55 percent of the vote.”
DeSantis also put up an impressive number, given that he just recently broke into the national scene. “DeSantis came in second with 21 percent support,” reported Breitbart. South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) placed third.
While the CPAC poll is a relatively small pool of conservative activists, it is still important for at least a couple of reasons: 1) It shows that Trump is still popular with his natural base, and 2) That he will remain a force for many years.
DeSantis and Noem — rising stars within the Republican Party — cant also be proud of their performance. Both governors have shown strong leadership during the COVID-19 crisis while under pressure from lockdown liberals.
This is why they have become increasingly popular within the conservative movement. If Trump decides to run for president again in 2024, he could already be eyeing one of them as his running mate.
