Former President Donald Trump weighed in Thursday on the way President Joe Biden should have withdrawn from Afghanistan, saying that Americans and equipment should have been brought out first, and the military last.
“First you bring out all of the American citizens. Then you bring out ALL equipment. Then you bomb the bases into smithereens,” Trump’s statement said. “AND THEN YOU BRING OUT THE MILITARY.”
Instead, Biden pulled out the military first and left an estimated 10,000 to 40,000 Americans trapped there, along with Afghans that had helped the American military, when the Afghan military collapsed under an attack by the Taliban.
Since Sunday, America has only been able to evacuate about 2,900 of its citizens as the Taliban actively hunts for them to kill them. A reported 4,500 American troops are protecting the airport at Kabul so that Americans can be evacutated, but it has been difficult for them to get to the airport, which is surrounded by the Taliban.
Podcaster and comedian Joe Rogan tweeted that the U.S. “gave the Taliban an air force,” but the comment was more true than it was funny.
