Early Thursday morning, just minutes after Congress certified the Electoral College results, President Donald Trump pledged that there would be an orderly transition of power to Joe Biden on January 20.
“Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th,” Trump wrote in a statement.
The statement was shared through Trump’s Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino on Twitter because Trump’s Twitter account was suspended after he posted a video asking for peace at the Capitol after protesters forced their way in and caused damage.
“While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it’s only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again!” he wrote.
Some of Trump’s aides and cabinet members resigned on Wednesday after Trump was accused of inciting some of his supporters to riot at the Capitol.
