Former President Barack Obama has made his most political attack on President Donald Trump and the current administration yet, telling recent graduates that those in charge don’t know what they’re doing and “aren’t even pretending to be in charge” of the coronavirus response.
Obama made the comments as part of a commencement celebration aimed at graduates of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
“More than anything this pandemic has fully finally torn back the curtain on the idea that so many of the folks in charge know what they’re doing,” he said. “A lot of them aren’t even pretending to be in charge.”
While Obama didn’t mention Trump by name, his comments did signal that he was entering a political fray that he had previously stayed away from at all costs, even when Trump criticized him loudly and repeatedly.
Obama also referred to “injustices” in society and urged graduates to work toward fixing them and supporting other Democrat priorities like environmental activism.
