The Senate failed to pass abortion legislation that would keep state, local and federal governments from preventing abortions, even losing one Democrat on the attempt.
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) voted against the bill along with all of the Republicans, making the vote 51-49 against the bill, which went even further than Roe V. Wade in legalizing abortion.
It was meant to be a response to laws in Mississippi and Texas that put severe restrictions on abortion, as well as a few states that want to ban abortion outright, except for the life of the mother or in cases of rape and incest.
Republicans said the bill gave too much power to “DC Democrats” in preventing abortion restrictions many people favor.
While Democrats want people to think of abortion as “women’s health,” Republicans look more at the rights of the unborn child to keep its life.
