A new poll showed that the majority of Americans do not favor a new federal law that gives women abortion rights.
In a Wednesday Politico/Morning Consult poll, only 47% support codifying abortion rights into federal law; the rest either oppose doing so or aren’t sure.
Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has promised to codify abortion rights into the law even though he does not have enough votes to get past the filibuster or to do away with it.
“A vote on this legislation is not an abstract exercise,” Schumer said. “This is as urgent and real as it gets. We will vote to protect a woman’s right to choose, and every American is going to see which side every senator stands.”
Schumer knows he’s not going to get a nationwide abortion rights law passed, but he has revealed his true agenda–to make every senator go on the record with a vote one way or the other.
