A group of about 100 prominent Christians including pastors and religion professors called on the Democrat National Committee in a letter to turn its back on the part of the platform that insists on taxpayer-funded abortions.
“We call upon you to recognize the inviolable human dignity of the child, before and after birth,” the letter read. “We urge you to reject a litmus test on pro-life people of faith seeking office in the Democratic Party.”
The party’s platform says that if elected, Democrats will insist that Planned Parenthood will be fully funded with taxpayer dollars and will fund low-income women’s abortions with taxpayer dollars as well.
The actions amount to a nullification of the Hyde Amendment, which prevented any legislation that would cause taxpayers to fund abortions. After first saying he would keep supporting the Hyde Amendment, Presumptive Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden changed his mind during the primary campaign and said he would no longer support it.
Biden professes to be Catholic, but still supports one of the things the Catholic church is most strongly against: abortion. The Democrat Party stands to lose many members or many votes if it doesn’t make some kind of provision for its pro-life members–which it will not do in the current climate.
