A group of House Republicans are pushing a resolution to ban the Democrat Party from the House or force the party to change its name because of past ties to slavery after the body voted to remove Confederate statues and other tributes from Congress for the same reason.
The resolution introduced by Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) cites Democrat Party platform support for slavery between 1840 and 1856 as well as other racist actions through 1900 as the reason for the ban.
It also called on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., to “remove any item that names, symbolizes or mentions any political organization or party that has ever held a public position that supported slavery or the Confederacy” from the House and its properties, as well as the party name change.
Gohmert said the party should change its name to to something that isn’t so blatantly and offensively tied to slavery, Jim Crow, discrimination, and the Ku Klux Klan” to “avoid triggering” anyone.
It is completely hilarious to see the Republicans turn the tables on Democrats and show them how ridiculous their cancel culture has become. They deserve some kind of award for their actions here.
