Some Democrats have become emboldened by President Joe Biden’s rapidly falling poll numbers and have begun to stand up to him on policy matters.
Nine Senate Democrats and many more Democrat Senate candidates have come out and disagreed with Biden’s decision to rescind Title 42, a Trump-era border policy that allows ICE agents to rapidly send illegal border crossers back to Mexico because of health risks.
Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI), the chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), said Biden needed a plan to handle the expected increase in border crossers before ending Title 42.
“Unless we have a well-thought-out plan, I think it is something that should be revisited and perhaps delayed. I’m going to defer judgment on that until I give the administration the opportunity to fully articulate what that plan is. But I share … concerns of some of my colleagues,” he said.
Most of the Senate objectors are up for re-election this year.
