Democrats declared President Donald Trump’s 2021 proposed budget “dead on arrival” Monday, adding that Trump’s plan reneges on part of his deal with Congress and makes his SOTU address “a lie.”
The budget plan calls for incremental cutting of the deficit by cutting wasteful bureaucracy and social programs. Trump wants to see deficit spending eliminated by 2035.
“As typical, President Trump’s budget shows his State of the Union address was lie upon lie to the American people,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said in a statement.
“It’s merely a political stunt to gratify extremists in his party,” Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) said.
The plan includes a 37 percent cut for the Commerce Department, a 26 percent cut for the Environmental Protection Agency and a 21 percent cut to the State Department and foreign aid.
