The news just dropped about a stunning ‘death rate’ reversal. The nation is completely shocked — millions of Americans are now wondering what will happen in the coming days.
“It’s a false narrative to take comfort in a lower rate of death,” said Dr. Anthony Fauci, in an apparent reversal of the predominant view that a falling death rate is actually a good thing.
“There’s so many other things that are very dangerous and bad about this virus,” he continued. It is obvious that Fauci is concerned, but perhaps he shouldn’t downplay positive news.
That said, as a doctor and infectious disease expert, it is his role to care about the messages that could create what he calls a “false complacency” about the COVID-19 pandemic. He has a point.
But it is also time for our country to continue reopening. Millions of Americans desperately need work in order to provide for their families and pay bills — we cannot simply run scared forever.
Perhaps Fauci is beginning to realize this fact as well, though. He noted how “we definitely are better now at treating individuals particularly because we have a couple of therapies that work well in people with the disease.”
