While visiting a biomedical center in North Carolina, President Donald Trump celebrated an announcement that Moderna’s vaccine for coronavirus currently in development has entered its third and final phase of development.
“I’m therefore proud to announce that this morning the Moderna has officially entered phase three already,” Trump said, noting that it normally takes about 18 months to develop a vaccine.
Trump has been working with a number of drug manufacturers to race toward a viable vaccine as part of his Operation Warp Speed program.
Four more vaccines will be entering the third phase of clinical trials within the next few weeks, and these vaccines are already being manufactured so that large numbers of doses will be available by the time the clinical trials are completed.
It is hoped that the availability of a vaccine will allow any remaining shutdowns and restrictions to end, but people may be more wary of a vaccine if they think it has been rushed into production.
