Actor Jussie Smollett’s request to dismiss his trial for his infamous 2019 hate crime hoax has been denied and he will stand trial for his actions.
On Friday, Cook County Judge James Linn denied Smollett’s request, ending the slim chances Smollett had at evading justice.
Smollett captured national attention after he alleged that he had been attacked by two men wearing MAGA hats yelling “MAGA country” as they attacked him.
The outrage was swift, and Trump supporters were demonized as racist hatemongers looking to attack African Americans nationwide. That was the narrative until it was revealed that the whole thing was a hoax orchestrated by Smollett.
As soon as news broke that Smollett had orchestrated the whole affair, the mainstream media and even Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx went into overdrive to protect Smollett.
All that effort has been wasted as thanks to Judge Linn, Smollett will stand trial, and hopefully, a strong deterrent against orchestrating hate crimes will be set.
