The corridors of power in Washington were just stunned by a conviction announcement. President Trump and his allies in Congress are shocked, and there’s even more to the story.
Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) explained to Tucker Carlson that “there are a lot of senators on the Republican side who do not like the president,” but even they can’t find reasons to remove him from office.
Hawley continued, “They would be happy to vote against him … if they can find grounds to.” But the point is simple: They can’t find anything. And that is what will save Trump next week.
As of now, the acquittal vote is expected to take place on Wednesday, and the Senate will reconvene on Monday for additional debate. Then, on Tuesday, Trump will give his annual State of the Union address.
However, as Hawley noted on Fox News, it is all pretty much a formality between now and then. It is even possible that some Democrats may join Republicans in acquitting Trump.
Carlson asked specifically about Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV), Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), and Doug Jones (D-AL) voting to clear the president. To which Hawley replied, “I think it’s very possible, Tucker.”
