Conservative radio host Larry Elder has jumped into the crowded field of candidates that want to run against California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) in a recall election.
There are already a number of Republicans in the race, including former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer; businessman John Cox, who was defeated by Newsom in 2018; state Assemblyman Kevin Kiley; reality TV personality and former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner; and former U.S. Rep. Doug Ose.
But there is no clear frontrunner, so Elder may be able to take the lead in the race and provide the needed interest.
The deadline for candidacy is Friday, July 16.
Newsom faces a recall mainly due to frustration over very strict COVID restrictions, but his poll numbers have gone up now that he has lifted restrictions.
