A newly declassified email from Obama National Security Adviser Susan Rice shows that then-FBI director James Comey suggested that sensitive information on Russia “potentially” not be shared with incoming Trump National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.
Rice said Comey made the suggestion because of administration concern about multiple phone calls Flynn made to Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak during the transitional time between the 2016 election and Trump’s inauguration.
Rice said in a statement Tuesday evening that she did not change the way she briefed Flynn as a result of Comey’s concerns.
“Ambassador Rice did not alter the way she briefed Michael Flynn on Russia as a result of Director Comey’s response,” Rice representative Erin Pelton said.
Obama said in the meeting that he wanted Comey to do everything “by the book” and to keep him updated if anything changed regarding Flynn.
