CNN tried to claim on Sunday that President Donald Trump promoted the “birther lie” that Kamala Harris might not be eligible to hold the office of vice-president even though there was no evidence to support their claim.
Harris’s parents might not have been citizens when she was born in Oakland, California in 1964, since babies were not automatically citizens just for being born in the country at that time.
Trump never said Harris was ineligible to be vice president, but when he was asked about her status, he said he had “no idea” about it and he “assumed the Democrats would have checked that out before she gets chosen to run for Vice President.”
In a press briefing the next day, Trump said he had “nothing to do with that” and “it’s not something that bothers me.”
How on earth did CNN spin those comments into a narrative that had Trump promoting the so-called “birther lie”?
