California gubernatorial candidate Larry Elder (R) said Tuesday that Hollywood conservative Clint Eastwood sent him a message of support in his bid to replace Gavin Newsom, who is up for recall on September 14.
“Clint Eastwood just contacted me with a message of his support. A shout out to Mr. Eastwood. You made my day,” Elder tweeted.
It was not clear whether the message from Eastwood, 91, was intended to be private or constituted a public endorsement of Elder.
Since jumping into the race just a few weeks ago, Elder has become the frontrunner of the Republicans running to unseat Newsom.
If a majority of voters vote to recall Newsom, then the top vote-getter among a number of candidates would replace him.
