Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) just shocked his fellow Democrats. It was a resignation announcement heard around the country.
Appearing on MSNBC this week, Schumer said that “it is clear that Governor Cuomo has lost the confidence of his governing partners and the people of New York. So for the good of the state, he should resign.”
Now, with one of the most powerful Democrats in the nation calling for Cuomo to resign, it is likely only a matter of time before the embattled governor steps down. The walls seem to be closing in.
It all started with reports that started before the 2020 election about how Cuomo and his administration allegedly covered-up nursing home deaths due to his disastrous COVID-19 policies.
For a time, Cuomo was able to ignore the brewing scandal, but it has hit a fever-pitch over the last few weeks. On top of that, multiple women have accused him of sexual harassment. There is even photo evidence.
If he doesn’t resign, however, several Democrats are already talking about a primary against the governor in 2022. Cuomo will eventually be gone, one way or another — and there is nothing he can do about it.
