There is a new popularity king on the world wide web and this one hails from communist China.
A recent report indicated that social media platform TikTok has surpassed Google as the most popular internet domain in the world, in terms of traffic generated on a daily basis.
TikTok was ranked seventh on the list at the end of 2020, but following explosive growth over the past couple of years, has leap-frogged ahead of other major internet domains like Amazon, Facebook, and now even Google, despite those sites offering more features and having more users overall than the Chinese social media platform.
Meanwhile, there are still significant security concerns among Western governments about the potential dangers posed by TikTok, from invasive app permission requests that could bolster communist surveillance efforts to other issues like censorship and the spread of propaganda.
