For the second time, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi gave Secretary of State Anthony Blinken a tongue lashing over the U.S. relationship with Taiwan.
Yi said at the G20 meeting on Sunday in Rome that America was harming China’s “legitimate interests” in the territory, which has agreements for sovereignty that China seems increasingly unwilling to respect.
When the two nations met last March, China accused the U.S. of humans rights abuses because of Black Lives Matter, even though China allegedly has concentration camps containing more than 1 million Uyghers, many of which have been mistreated.
Back then, Blinken actually agreed with the Chinese diplomats, telling reporters, “We know we have work to do at home.”
Yi urged the U.S. to support a “one-China” policy, but that is not likely to happen any time soon.
