California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) declared monkeypox a state of emergency even though the disease mostly only affects men who have sex with men.
“We’ll continue to work with the federal government to secure more vaccines, raise awareness about reducing risk, and stand with the LGBTQ community fighting stigmatization,” Newsom said.
Monkeypox spreads through close contact with infected persons or with surfaces and items they have touched, such as bedding, clothing or towels. Newsom and state officials are worried that those with monkeypox will be stigmatized and have tried to emphasize the fact that it can spread in other ways than sex between men.
Seemingly, though, it is mainly spreading among very promiscuous gay men, and that fact should not be ignored by public health officials.
In addition, Newsom is clearly eager to use yet another virus to control the public.
