A hiker on the Appalachian Trail in Tennessee is claiming he saw wanted fugitive Brian Laundrie around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday near the trail, which is close to the North Carolina border.
Dennis Davis called the FBI and 911 in the area after realizing it had been Laundrie he saw in a white pickup truck and had a conversation with.
Davis said he could tell something wasn’t right about the man he identified as Laundrie, and that Laundrie told him that he was lost and was trying to get to California after having a fight with his girlfriend. Laundrie is wanted on bank fraud charges but is also a person of interest in his fiancee Abby Petito’s death.
After Davis tried to direct the man to I-40 West, Davis said the man said, “No, I think this road that we’re on — I’m going to take it to California.”
Police searched the area but didn’t find any vehicles or people that matched Davis’s description of the man he is sure was Laundrie.
