Twitter announced Saturday that it is in the process of suspending 70 pro-Bloomberg accounts for violating the social media giant’s policies.
The accounts were suspended for posting identical messages, images, links and hashtags, which violates the “Platform Manipulation and Spam Policy.”
The campaign said it hired hundreds of people to promote Bloomberg’s campaign on their social pages and in their circles. It had no intention to “mislead” anyone and asked those hired to identify themselves as employees of the campaign, spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said.
Facebook had banned some accounts initially, but later lifted the ban when the campaign mounted a large scale influencer program.
It seems to me that paying people to post nice things about you on social media will end up destroying people’s trust in the authenticity of social media altogether.
