Former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg is pretending like a high-profile former president endorsed him, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Obama did no such thing.
As reported by The Daily Wire, Bloomberg, in the lead-up to the New Hampshire primary, “spent $1.2 million … on a 30-second ad that included a section of one of Obama’s speeches where he praised Bloomberg.”
During the ad, images of Bloomberg and Obama together flash across the screen. “President Barack Obama is someone I was proud to call Commander-in-Chief,” says Bloomberg in a voice-over.
Even though Obama hasn’t endorsed any candidate yet, Bloomberg is reportedly tricking many Democratic voters into believing otherwise and leading to mass confusion.
“The power of saturation advertising,” tweeted David Plouffe, Obama’s 2008 campaign manager. “Someone at my gym in California asked me why Barack Obama chose Bloomberg over the rest of the field.”
Political forecaster Larry Sabato echoed a similar story, tweeting that he keeps “encountering Dem voters who like Mike Bloomberg because he’s been endorsed by Barack Obama,” which is “fake news.”
