Attorney General William Barr defended his action to have the Justice Department intervene in a defamation lawsuit brought by Jean Carroll against President Donald Trump.
The DOJ filed Tuesday to move the lawsuit from state to federal court and to make the United States the defendant rather than Trump under the Westfall Act.
“The case law is crystal clear that the Westfall Act applies to claims against the president, the vice president, as well as other federal employees and members of Congress,” Barr said during a Wednesday news conference.
Of course, Democrats accused Trump of using the “power of the U.S. government” to fight his battles. Maybe they don’t know about the Westfall Act?
Or maybe Trump-haters just use any excuse to attack him no matter what the situation or circumstance.
