Attorney General William Barr just received some bad news. President Donald Trump has dropped the happen — he could really be doing it.
Earlier this week, Trump was asked by White House reporters about the rumors that he may fire Barr soon. “Ask me that in a number of weeks from now,” he said, refusing to rule out the possibility.
The chance of Trump firing Barr is quite low — after all, Barr has been a highly competent, powerful, and loyal attorney general — but the president is allowing the question to hang for a reason.
Ultimately, Trump is frustrated with Barr over his handling of the 2020 election. Trump wants the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate reports of voting irregularities and fraud. So far, nothing has turned up.
Will Barr see the light? It has yet to be seen, but he could be waiting to see what will become of the pending lawsuits and subsequent court cases. The dispute in Pennsylvania may even wind up at the U.S. Supreme Court.
Time will tell. If a legitimate investigation isn’t conducted by the DOJ and Joe Biden is sworn-in as the next president of the United States, a giant question mark will always hang over his victory.
