A DOJ prosecutor who was part of the IRA targeting of conservative groups has resigned after a memo from Attorney General William Barr directing prosecutors to investigate potential voter fraud in the 2020 election.
Richard Pilger wrote in response to Barr’s memo, “Having familiarized myself with the new policy and its ramifications, I must regretfully resign from my role as director of the Election Crimes Branch.”
Pilger was the director of the Election Crimes Branch and oversaw election fraud investigations. His resignation was trumpeted by the New York Times as a principled stand.
Now why would someone high up in the DOJ balk at being told to do his job? And what has Pilger been doing all this time if not investigate election crimes?
He surely didn’t have a problem going after conservatives who he thought might have cheated on their taxes.
