A major announcement from Attorney General William Barr just hit the news, and the Democrats are furious. They have responded with a bombshell of their own — setting up a legal showdown in federal court.
The Supreme Court shockingly ruled against the Trump administration’s push to add a citizenship-related question on the 2020 census, but Democrats are still after political dirt and have sued Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross.
This comes after the two officials refused to comply with subpoenas issued by the House Committee on Oversight and Reform. The Democrat-led panel is seeking additional documents related to Trump’s now-abandoned effort.
Chairwoman Carolyn B, Maloney (D-NC) said that Barr and Ross “have doubled down on their open defiance of the rule of law and refused to produce even a single additional document in response to our Committee’s bipartisan subpoenas.”
There’s no telling what will become of the federal lawsuit, however, you can bet that Barr is mounting the best legal defense possible. He is no pushover and, as such, he terrifies Democrats who are just on another witch-hunt.
Kerri Kupec, the Justice Department’s spokeswoman, noted that the department “worked for months to supply thousands of documents to accommodate Congress’s requests” and called out the lawsuit as a “political stunt.”
