Joe Biden, who currently leads the Electoral College vote count, fractured his foot in several places when he slipped and twisted his ankle while playing with his dog Major on Sunday in Delaware.
Biden saw his doctor Kevin O’Connor and then an orthopedist who did imaging to reveal the fractures of two bones in the middle of his right foot.
He will have to wear a walking boot for several weeks, O’Connor said. The fractures are hairline and should heal relatively quickly.
At 78, Biden will be the oldest U.S. president at inauguration, should he retain his electoral lead in the face of legal challenges to election results by President Donald Trump.
Trump sent well-wishes to Biden for a speedy recovery upon hearing about the accident.
