Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE) tore into President Joe Biden in a statement after Biden said an August 31 deadline to pull out all U.S. military from Afghanistan wouldn’t be extended even if Americans were still in the now-hostile country.
Biden should be in charge of the deadline, not the Taliban, Sasse said.
“D–n the deadline,” he continued. “The American people are not going to surrender our fellow citizens to the Taliban. Americans want us to stay until we get our people out, and so do our allies. The Biden administration needs to cut the Stockholm syndrome.”
Sasse said that trusting the Taliban to help get Americans out after the deadline was not a good option, and that Biden would be responsible if there were losses of American lives.
“If President Biden accepts the Taliban’s terms he’ll be the one holding the shovel in Afghanistan’s ‘graveyard of empires,'” he said.
