Former Vice President Joe Biden coronavirus task force member Dr. Michael Osterholm predicted Thursday that hospitals would start “collapsing in the next two to three weeks” because of the increase in coronavirus cases.
Osterholm said President Donald Trump’s administration was not telling the Biden task force what it needs to know about the current state of the pandemic. Trump has not conceded to Biden and several legal challenges to the election results are working their way through the courts.
“I think right now we all have to understand that we need current information on the number of cases,” he told Joe Scarborough on MSNBC. “I think that the White House task force report issued yesterday or at least was made public yesterday is right on the mark. We are really in a crisis stage. We have to be discussing what can we do, what do we do. You know, it’s not just enough to help Americans understand you don’t want to swap air — how do you incentivize them, how do you help them realize that this what they want to do.”
Osterholm pointed out that the cases that would end up in the hospital over the next three to four weeks are “already in the pipeline.”
It wasn’t clear which hospitals in which locations he thought would be “collapsing,” and how he could predict that if he didn’t have information from the task force.
