Now that Beto O’Rourke is campaigning to be Texas governor, he has changed his tune from taking away people’s guns to an AR-15 “buyback” if conditions in the state permit.
When running as a Democrat candidate for president in 2019, O’Rourke said, “Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15.”
In February, O’Rourke formally took back his comments, saying, “I’m not interested in taking anything from anyone.”
On Saturday, his position evolved again. He said, “And if I can find the consensus within the Legislature to have a law in the state of Texas that allows us to buy those AK-47s and AR-15s back, we will.”
At this point, it should be clear that he really wants to take guns away, but is now giving lip service to a position he thinks voters won’t object to.
