Attorney General William Barr just stunned President Donald Trump. The news is spreading nationwide — Barr made an announcement regarding a criminal investigation. There’s no telling where this could go next.
While the investigation into the origins of the Trump-Russia ‘collusion’ hoax is ongoing, Barr reportedly does not expect former President Barack Obama or former Vice President Joe Biden to be legally implicated in the scam.
“Based on the information I have today, I don’t expect (it) will lead to a criminal investigation of either man,” said Barr, referring to Obama and Biden. Trump, of course, holds a completely different view of the situation.
Trump has publicly called for them to be investigated. “Obama knew everything that was happening,” he said. “I think Obama and Biden knew about it.” He even said that Obama should be brought forward to testify.
Now, it is highly likely that Barr is being prudent — he doesn’t want to over-promise and under-deliver. Additionally, we are in the middle of an election year, and he wants to avoid even the slightest hint of politics at the DOJ.
After all, it was the Obama administration that used federal power and resources to investigate then-candidate Donald Trump in 2016, which Barr called a “grave injustice.” But he has a different role to play than the president.
