As The Associated Press noted, the Department of Justice (DOJ) “insisted the decision to undo the sentencing recommendation was made Monday night, before Trump began tweeting about it.”
The DOJ has also said “that prosecutors had not spoken to the White House about” their decision to overrule the federal prosecutors on the case and pursue lighter sentencing for Stone.
Barr will be able to easily prove the timeline of events on March 31 when he testifies before Nadler’s committee. Trump tweeting about the case had nothing to do with the DOJ’s decision.
