Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) said on “Fox&Friends First” on Friday that he thinks a terrorist attack on American soil is inevitable because of the fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban and the weakened U.S. position it signals.
Gimenez referenced the $80 billion in equipment and supplies that were left to the Taliban when the military pulled out of Afghanistan and added, “Extremists have a safe haven in Afghanistan. So, not only do I not feel safe, I don’t think any American should feel safer today than they did a couple of weeks ago.”
The problems on the southern border could contribute even more to the chances of an attack, Gimenez reasoned.
“We have hundreds of thousands of immigrants coming through and we know that there, we have people that have been on the terror watchlist that have slipped through,” he said.
“So, yeah, it’s a matter of when, not if,” he concluded. “We have to be very vigilant, and, unfortunately, I don’t have that much faith in the Biden administration to keep Americans safe.”
