An arrest warrant was just issued for President Donald Trump. The White House is completely stunned and Trump’s top advisors are working on a response. This is a stunning development.
“Tehran Prosecutor General Ali Alqasi-Mehr has identified” Trump among the “36 individuals he says contributed to the death of Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani” and referred them to INTERPOL for arrest.
Iran’s leaders are still clearly trying to save face after the U.S. military — at Trump’s direction — took out General Soleimani, a brutal terrorist responsible for the deaths of hundreds of U.S. troops.
However, the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) is unlikely to take action. Trump certainly isn’t at risk of being arrested and Iran is well-aware of this fact. This is political.
But the choice to eliminate Soleimani was to hold the Iranian government accountable for its years of targeting U.S. soldiers and allies. It is a strategic decision that will define Trump’s presidency.
As Trump himself said, “While Iran will never be able to properly admit it, Soleimani was both hated and feared within the country. […] He should have been taken out many years ago!”
