A total of 24 people were shot and three were killed over the weekend in Chicago as part of an ongoing problem of gun violence there despite some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation.
A seven-year-old girl was one of the fatalities and was shot multiple times by a gunman, and her father who was also shot was seriously wounded.
The other two people killed were an 18-year-old and 43-year-old man. They join the 163 people were killed in Chicago January 1, 2021, through April 14, 2021.
During the same time period, 864 people were shot in total. That is 218 more than the same time period in 2020.
Maybe Chicago should try a different strategy than strict gun control in order to get this problem under control.
