The Arizona GOP censured three party leaders on Saturday for their actions against former President Donald Trump prior to and after the election.
Led by Kelli Ward, the state party censured Gov. Doug Ducey, former Sen. Jeff Flake, and Cindy McCain as a way to move forward after Joe Biden narrowly won the state over Trump.
Flake and McCain were censured for opposing Trump and for supporting “globalist interests,” while Ducey was censured for coronavirus shutdowns that the GOP considered unconstitutional and restrictive of people’s liberties.
The censures were symbolic and did not carry any consequences for the ones censured, but it is unusual to see the GOP censure their own.
While the state party is now calling for unity, Flake and McCain said they considered their censure a “badge of honor” and would continue to oppose Trump.
