Arizona just shocked President Donald Trump and his supporters. Democrats are fuming, but there is nothing they can do about it now — they have to live with the political consequences of this reversal.
In a tweet dated August 15, 2017, Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs said that “@realDonaldTrump has made it abundantly clear he’s more interested in pandering to his neo-nazi base than being @POTUS for all Americans.”
Hobbs, who has been directly involved in Arizona’s ballot-counting process, cannot be trusted to do it fairly. She should know better as the state’s top election official than to make blatantly partisan (and false) statements.
In fact, her comment should call into question whether the vote count is correct and invite a legal challenge to force a statewide recount — which could possibly lead to a reversal. Trump’s own campaign is confident in their internal numbers.
We will see what happens. Meanwhile, a hand recount in Georgia has been initiated by Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in order to ensure that every legal vote is accounted for and all invalid ballots are rejected.
There is also the business in Pennsylvania, a matter that will likely have to be resolved by the U.S. Supreme Court. Already, Justice Samuel Alito ordered the state to sequester all mail-in ballots received after the legal deadline.
